Trama:In entrambe le stagioni, il leitmotiv della serie è più o meno lo stesso: Batman è impegnato nella lotta contro il crimine a Gotham City. Nei primissimi episodi della prima stagione, Bruce Wayne indossa già i panni dell’Uomo Pipistrello ma la polizia e la gente di Gotham sembrano diffidare da lui. Sin dall’inizio della serie, Batman potrà fare affidamento sul suo maggiordomo Alfred Pennyworth, il commissario James Gordon e la spalla Robin (Dick Grayson) che comparirà nella serie saltuariamente. Nella prima stagione vengono introdotti numerosi nemici storici del Cavaliere Oscuro come Man-Bat (il primo in ordine di tempo, nell’episodio L’uomo pipistrello), il Joker, lo Spauracchio, Edera Velenosa, Due Facce, il Pinguino, Mister Freeze, Catwoman, l’Uomo d’argilla, Harley Quinn, Killer Croc, il Cappellaio Matto.
