Trama:Arthur Young, ormai abbandonata ogni velleità personale, non ha però minimamente esaurito la sua passione per il baseball, che anzi rivive rinnovata grazie al piccolo Tommy. Il sogno, quasi ossessivo, di diventare una stella del baseball, viene quindi riflesso dal vecchio Arthur sul figlio secondogenito Tommy: il ragazzino viene sottoposto ad allenamenti massacranti, pur essendo ancora solamente poco più d’un bambino: gli viene fatta spesso indossare un’imbracatura di ferro per potenziare la muscolatura delle spalle e, nonostante sia destrorso, è costretto ad utilizzare sempre la mano sinistra sia per lanciare la palla che per mangiare..
